Siro Basti (Retention of Oil on the Head / Crown Chakra)

This is a medicated oil treatment for the head. The crown of the head is encased within a special type of container, which is secured around the forehead and entire scalp, creating a small basin on top of the head. Warm, medicated oil is then poured into this basin and left for some time to penetrate the scalp. As the Crown Chakra resides on the head, this treatment improves the flow of prana (energy) and enhances the functioning of the senses.

This therapy is typically administered after Head Abhyanga (head massage). The efficacy of this treatment increases after the stimulation of the head, so it is preceded by a Head Abhyanga.
