Istika Sweda (Brick Powder Sudation)
Dry heat therapy using brick powder to reduce Ama and relieve joint discomfort
Description
Istika Sweda is a dry type of Svedana (sudation) performed on localized areas of the body. In this therapy, brick powder (Istika churna), occasionally combined with other herbs, is gently heated and packed into a bolus, which is then applied in a rhythmic, hammering motion over the affected region after an oil massage. This method effectively reduces heaviness and helps digest or dislodge localized Ama (toxins).
Svedana induces sweating through the hair follicles and fat tissues, helping to dilate the bodily channels and mobilize toxins for elimination. This process stimulates the digestive fire (Agni), supports the breakdown of Ama, and regulates water metabolism. The dry heat of Istika Sweda is particularly useful when moisture-based Svedana is not indicated.
