Virechana (Purgation Therapy)

Deep Cleansing for Pitta and Emotional Detoxification

Description

Virechana, the literal translation of which is purgation, is a classical Ayurvedic purification therapy specifically designed to eliminate excess Pitta dosha from the body. It provides a deep internal detox, targeting the liver, pancreas, spleen, lungs, and digestive tract. Virechana also works on emotional residual toxins, resulting in a profound cleansing of the emotions and deep cellular metabolic waste (Ama). It is typically performed after preparatory procedures such as medicated ghee intake, Abhyanga(oil massage), and Svedana (steam therapy), usually over three days.

The therapy works by administering specific purgative herbal formulations to stimulate the bowels and eliminate toxins through the gastrointestinal tract. This allows the digestive fire (Agni) to rekindle, paving the way for improved metabolism, emotional clarity, and systemic rejuvenation.
